"Robyn,
I was diagnosed with MS in 1993. I was 21 years old at the time and was paralyzed from the waist down for about seven months. It went into remission and I was for the most part fine over the next twelve or so years. I had a few bumps in the road but a good round of steroids would always get me over it. About four years ago I had a relapse and nothing seemed to help. I had been in law enforcement the preceeding twelve years and was the poster child for health. After my relapse four years ago I just kept going down hill. I had to leave my job and ended up on full disability. I have been on every MS drug that there is but nothing was helping. I had severe numbness and tingling on my right side, balance issues, poor coordination, and severe heat sensativity. I walked with a cane while inside my house and if I went out I had to use my electric scooter. Tough to swallow for a 36 year old man with two young boys.
When I arrived at the airport to go to Costa Rica they had a wheel chair waiting on me at the curb. They took me to the airplane and had one waiting for me in Costa Rica. I was there for two weeks. I started seeing some improvements after my third injection. When I got home I walked all the way from the plane to our car in the parking lot. I can tell you every single thing I did while in Costa Rica but for the life of me I can't explain what happened. Today I have absolutely no MS symptoms. I am back to work as a sergeant investigator for the department I used to work for. God has given me a second chance at life and I'm going to make the best of it! It's only been eight months since I've been back from Costa Rica. The only problem I have now is rebuilding strength in my legs. It's been basically four years since I've used them. I bought a new bicycle and ride every day. I get stronger daily.
The doctors in Costa Rica were wonderful. I'd go back tomorrow if I needed to. I received the best care since I've been diagnosed in 1993. I had no adverse affects from the treatments. My whole experience in Costa Rica was nothing short of a miracle.
I now play baseball with my boys in the back yard. I'd nearly given up on ever being able to do that again, much less get back in to the profession I love. Please feel free to contact me at any time. You can call anytime. Please know that you are in my prayers and I hope you get to go, it has truly changed my life.
Your friend,
Jason Upshaw"
